The Burgundy vineyards cover an area of 25,000 hectares, spread over 3 départements or administrative regions and 5 main areas of production: Chablis/Auxerrois in Yonne,  Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune in Côte-d'Or,  Côte Chalonnaise and Mâconnais in Saône et Loire – and are responsible for 99 appellations d'origine contrôlée.
