Public Holidays

There are 10 publc holidays in France. These are:

New Year's Day 1 January
Easter Monday 5 April 2010
Labour Day 1 May
Victory Day 8 May
Ascension Day 13 May 2010
National Day / Bastille Day 14 July
Assumption Day 15 August
All Saint's Day 1 November
Armistice Day 11 November
Christmas Day 25 December

On these days Government Departments, banks, shops … are, in the main, closed. Most stores and businesses close on public holidays, but a majority of museums monuments, and restaurants remain open, or only close on certain holidays. Ask your hotel concierge or local tourist office for information and recommendations.

School Holidays

School Holidays French schoolchildren and teachers have five holidays a year! One week at the end of October, two weeks at Christmas, two more in February, two in spring, and the whole of the summer in July and August.
Please be aware that tourist sites as well as the roads are busier during these periods.

Zone A : Caen, Clermont-Ferrand, Grenoble, Lyons, Montpellier, Nancy-Metz, Nantes, Rennes, Toulouse.
Zone B : Aix-Marseilles, Amiens, Besançon, Dijon, Lille, Limoges, Nice, Orléans-Tours, Poitiers, Reims, Rouen, Strasbourg.
Zone C : Bordeaux, Créteil, Paris, Versailles.
