Compulsory Jacket for cyclists from the 1st of September 2008

Wearing a Reflective Jacket becomes compulsory for motorcyclists and cyclists from the 1 September 2008, after the same rule was applied to car drivers since 1 July 2008.

The jacket with EU certification must be worn by every cyclist on the road, at nights or during the day if the visibility is poor.

Cyclists who do not wear the jacket will risk a fine of 35 euros.

This objective of this measure is to reinforce the safety of cyclists, who are among the most vulnerable road users.

Reminder: the Reflective Jacket and the Safety Triangle are compulsory in cars since 1 July 2008. The absence of one of these two objects is liable to a fine 135 euros, applicable since 1 October 2008.

With the Reflective Jacket, the cyclist becomes 3 times more visible during the day and five times more in the night than one without it.
