In France and many other countries, people are becoming more and more concerned about the consequences of tourism and what can be done to limit the negative impacts on the environment and local culture. Many providers of accommodation, activities, transport etc. have made a big effort towards Sustainable Tourism, and to help tourists finding these providers, different labels have been created in France and in Europe.
Sustainable Tourism or Responsible Tourism means the application of sustainable development on tourist activity: a way to gather economic development, social matter and environment eco awareness.
According to the World Tourism Organisation Charter, sustainable development should be "endurable for environmental interest, viable for economic level, fair for the ethic and social for local population".
